China and Nepal Hold the 12th Round of Diplomatic Consultation

On December 13, 2018, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou held the 12th round of China-Nepal diplomatic consultation with Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi of Nepal in Beijing.

Kong Xuanyou expressed that Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli made a successful visit to China in June this year, during which the leaders of the two countries have reached the important consensus on deepening cooperation in various fields under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, clarifying the goal of building a community with a shared future between China and Nepal in the new era. The Chinese side regards Nepal as a trustworthy friend and an important partner in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and is willing to join hands with the Nepalese side to, following the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Nepal and deepen China-Nepal comprehensive cooperative partnership, thus well building a community with a shared future between the two countries.

Shankar Das Bairagi said that Nepal's two main communist parties have merged and formed a stable government this year. The Nepalese side attaches great importance to Nepal-China relations, and will continue to abide by the One-China policy and take an active participation in the undertaking of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Nepalese side looks forward to strengthening mutual visits and exchanges with the Chinese side, and hopes that the Chinese side will continue to provide aid and support for Nepal's economic and social development.

The two sides had in-depth discussions on bilateral communication and cooperation in such areas as connectivity, economy and trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement, agriculture, and locality, and exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest.
