On April 17, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui attended and addressed at invitation the opening ceremony of the 14th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum held in Beijing.

Zhang Hanhui expressed that the SCO has always upheld the Shanghai Spirit since its launch 18 years ago. It has established efficient cooperation mechanisms in various fields and yielded fruitful cooperation results, becoming an important and constructive force in safeguarding regional security and stability and promoting the development and prosperity of various countries.

Zhang Hanhui pointed out that last year’s SCO Qingdao Summit is a new milestone in the development process of this organization, as it charted the course for the further development of the SCO. All parties should well implement the outcomes from the Qingdao Summit, and make good preparations for this year’s Bishkek Summit and other important events, so as to push the SCO for greater development. The Chinese side has always attached great importance to the development of the SCO, and is willing to constantly consolidate good-neighborly and friendly cooperative relations with SCO member states, stand together through thick and thin, and move forward hand in hand to jointly usher in a better future.

This meeting was co-hosted by China Center for SCO Studies and China Institute of International Studies. SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov and nearly a hundred experts and scholars from SCO member states, observer states and dialogue partners attended the meeting.
