Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Cui Aimin Introduces Consular Work at the Forum Themed Overseas Chinese Associations Connecting the Five Continents and a Colorful Yunnan

From June 11 to 12, 2019, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Cui Aimin attended the 17th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Conference and the first Belt and Road Overseas Chinese Associations Forum themed overseas Chinese associations connecting the five continents and a colorful Yunnan, a event co-organized by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the Yunnan provincial government and China Development Bank. Cui Aimin addressed the opening ceremony and also introduced China's consular work to overseas Chinese representatives at the harmonious overseas Chinese community forum.

Cui Aimin said that consular work is the most down-to-earth one in diplomatic work, which directly reflects the ruling concept of diplomacy for the people and the people-oriented development concept. With China's ties with the rest of the world growing closer as never before, the scale of personnel exchanges between China and other countries is expanding, and the diplomatic attribute, people-oriented attribute and epochal character of consular work are further highlighted.

Cui Aimin introduced the current situation of consular work and the efforts in the next stage from the aspects of strengthening consular protection, doing a good job in overseas Chinese affairs, promoting the facilitation of personnel exchanges between China and other countries, and deepening the reform of delegating power, strengthening regulation, and improving services of consular certificates.

Cui Aimin stressed that the continuous development of the country and the high expectations of the people have given us full confidence in performing consular work in the new era, and also brought new development opportunities and historical missions. Consular work will keep up with the theme of the times, progress with the times, blaze new trails to put procedures in place to give outbound Chinese citizens a greater sense of safety, and improve the comprehensive consular service network. We will introduce more measures for the protection, convenience, and benefit of our people, promote the sustainable development of the overseas Chinese affairs, build a more convenient and smooth order for Chinese and foreign personnel exchanges to contribute our bit to the building of the Belt and Road Initiative, and serve people's yearning for a better life, in a bid to show the new demeanor and new visage of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.

Cui Aimin also conducted interactions and exchanges with overseas Chinese. The participants commended the achievements made in consular work in recent years and put forward their opinions and suggestions on overseas Chinese affairs and consular protection work.

The 17th ASEAN Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Conference and the first Belt and Road Overseas Chinese Associations Forum themed overseas Chinese associations connecting the five continents and a colorful Yunnan, with a focus on the overseas Chinese and the Belt and Road Initiative, aims to give full play to the advantages of overseas Chinese, discuss the building of the Belt and Road Initiative and seek open development. More than 10 activities such as the harmonious overseas Chinese community forum, and the overseas Chinese youth roundtable were held, and more than 600 overseas Chinese representatives from 53 countries and regions attended the event.
