On June 10, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato' Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob of Malaysia had telephone conversation via video link, exchanging views on China-Malaysia relations and cooperation in COVID-19 response.

Luo Zhaohui expressed, China and Malaysia have helped each other and overcome current difficulties since the outbreak of the pandemic, showcasing the fraternal friendship of both sides. The Chinese side is prepared to continue to step up bilateral and multilateral cooperation in pandemic containment with the Malaysian side, focus on the post-pandemic era, and discuss the establishment of a "fast track" for restoring personnel exchanges to maintain the stability and smoothness of both countries' industrial and supply chains. Both sides also need to deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative in an innovative manner, and strengthen regional and multilateral coordination and cooperation, in a bid to push China-Malaysia relations for greater development.

Congratulating China on its major victory in fighting the virus, Dato' Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob thanked the Chinese side for providing valuable support to the Malaysian side, and expected to enhance cooperation in drugs and vaccine research and development with the Chinese side. Malaysia is willing to continuously deepen bilateral relations and cooperation in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative with China, and beef up coordination and cooperation within East Asia regional cooperation, World Health Organization and other framework, so as to elevate Malaysia-China comprehensive strategic cooperation to new highs.
