External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping Holds a Video Meeting of Inter-departmental and Inter-regional Security Cooperation Mechanism with Deputy Adviser on National Security Council of Afghanistan Fahim

On November 12, 2020, External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping and Deputy Adviser on National Security Council of Afghanistan Fahim held a video meeting of China-Afghanistan Inter-departmental and Inter-regional Security Cooperation Mechanism. They exchanged views on bilateral relations, joint fight against East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), and local livelihood cooperation. Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu and Afghan Ambassador to China Javid Ahmad Qaem as well as other representatives from relevant authorities of both countries attended the meeting.

Cheng Guoping said, China and Afghanistan enjoy traditional friendship and are strategic cooperative partners. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Afghanistan diplomatic relations. The two sides should implement the important consensus of the leaders of both countries, leverage the inter-departmental and inter-regional mechanism to deepen cooperation in fight against ETIM, strengthen local livelihood cooperation, promote bilateral relations, and maintain regional security and stability. As a true friend of the Afghan people, China will continue to be a supporter, mediator and facilitator of the Afghan peace and reconciliation process.

Fahim said, Afghanistan values its relations with China, and will continue the resolute fight against ETIM and other terrorist forces. It would like to work together with China to leverage the inter-departmental and inter-regional mechanism, deepen security, livelihood and local cooperation, and deliver more practical outcomes in China-Afghanistan relations.

The ambassadors of the two countries also offered suggestions for promoting the cooperation under the inter-departmental and inter-regional mechanism.
