External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping Holds a Video Meeting of China-Kazakhstan Inter-departmental and Inter-regional Security Cooperation Mechanism Leaders with First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan Marat Shaikhutdinov

On January 14, 2021, External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping held a video meeting of China-Kazakhstan Inter-departmental and Inter-regional Security Cooperation Mechanism Leaders with First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan Marat Shaikhutdinov. Both sides exchanged views on relevant issues on China-Kazakhstan relations, and the establishment of the inter-departmental and inter-regional mechanism. Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Zhang Xiao and Kazakh Ambassador to China Gabit Koishibayev also attended the meeting via video link.

Cheng Guoping said that China and Kazakhstan are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers and permanent comprehensive strategic partners of sincerity and mutual trust. Facing the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have helped and supported each other and carried out effective anti-pandemic cooperation. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence. Next year will usher in the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kazakhstan. China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, make China-Kazakhstan inter-departmental and inter-regional mechanism more substantial and concrete, and deepen counter-terrorism and security cooperation to build a strong regional security barrier.

Shaikhutdinov said that Kazakhstan-China relations have developed rapidly in recent years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges, cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results, and bilateral trade has risen against the trend. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, which are of important historical significance for both countries. Kazakhstan is willing to work with China to make good use of the platform of the inter-departmental and inter-regional mechanism to strengthen counter-terrorism security cooperation and promote greater development of Kazakhstan-China relations.
