Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Lesotho

The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, in conformity with the interests and desires of the peoples of the two countries, have decided to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level as from 30 April 1983and to exchange ambassadors.

The two Governments have agreed to develop friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence.

The Government of the People's Republic of China supports the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho in its efforts to safeguard national independence and sovereignty and to develop the national economy.

The Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho recognizes that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China.

The two Governments have agreed to mutually provide all necessary assistance for the performance of the functions of diplomatic representatives in accordance with international practice.
