Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Deng Xijun Attends Third Meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the US

On February 6, 2016, Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Deng Xijun held the third meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the US in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, together with Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai of Afghanistan, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry of Pakistan and Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard G. Olson of the US. The meeting charted the course for direct peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban. The four sides agreed to join efforts to make possible the direct peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban at the end of February and called on all parties of Taliban to participate. Special Envoy Deng Xijun expressed that China supports the “Afghan-owned and Afghan-led” reconciliation process and will continue to play a constructive role to this end. The four sides also agreed to convene the next meeting in Kabul on February 23, 2016.
