Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Attends 2019 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Region Meeting

On May 15, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong attended and addressed the opening ceremony of 2019 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Region Meeting in Chongqing.

Chen Xiaodong said that the meeting is an important measure for implementing relevant consensus of the leaders of the SCO member states, and holds important significance for promoting friendly exchanges among the member states at sub-national level and deepen the practical cooperation of the SCO. As the SCO is standing at a new historic starting point, we must keep in mind the fundamental interests of all the member states and the development of the SCO in the long run and use the unique advantage of geographical proximity and affinity between our peoples of the SCO member states, so as to make sub-national cooperation a new growth driver of the SCO cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to work with various sides to push the sub-national cooperation of the SCO to new levels.

Mayor of Chongqing Tang Liangzhi, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sherali Saidamir Jonon, and Executive Secretary of the SCO Business Council Sergey Kanavsky delivered speeches at the opening ceremony respectively.

2019 SCO Heads of Region Meeting was hosted by Chongqing and attended by delegations of 11 Chinese provinces and municipalities and 25 delegations at sub-national level of other SCO member states and observer states. Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Chen Miner attended the opening ceremony and met with domestic and foreign guests for the meeting before the opening ceremony.
