On August 31, 2017, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met at the Great Hall of the People with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan.

Zhang Dejiang said that with the personal care and promotion of President Xi Jinping and Mr. President, China-Tajikistan relations have constantly achieved new developments with bilateral strategic mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation reaching an unprecedented high level. The NPC is willing to intensify friendly exchanges with the Parliament of Tajikistan, actively advance the implementation of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, actively facilitate the “Belt and Road” cooperation and bilateral cooperation in various fields and local cooperation, enhance political mutual trust and conduct experience exchange, so as to make unremitting efforts to boost the comprehensive development of bilateral relations.

Emomali Rahmon said that China is an important strategic partner of Tajikistan. Bilateral relations have enjoyed long-term and significant development since the establishment of diplomatic relations 25 years ago. Tajikistan stands ready to make joint endeavor with China to further enhance bilateral political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and actively conduct exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, in a bid to promote bilateral relations for constant new development.
