On April 25, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Resident Coordinator of the UN Development System in China Siddharth Chatterjee in Beijing.

Wang Yi said, the United Nations is the main platform for international development cooperation. China attaches great importance to its cooperation with the UN Development System and stands ready to work with the United Nations to advance the cause of global development.

Wang Yi stressed that in response to various challenges in the era of COVID-19, and in particular to the expectations of developing countries for accelerating their post-pandemic recovery, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Development Initiative (GDI), which calls on the international community to pay more attention to development, strengthen international development cooperation and accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The GDI was warmly received by Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres when it was put forward, and actively participated in by the UN member states at large. So far, more than 100 countries have expressed their support for the GDI, and more than 50 countries have joined the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative set up by China on the UN platform. Wang Yi said the GDI is another global public good put forward by President Xi Jinping following the Belt and Road Initiative. It serves as an accelerator of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and remobilization of the global development cause, which fully meets the expectations of all countries, especially the vast developing countries.

Wang Yi said that major progress has been made in Belt and Road cooperation, which has made important contributions to global connectivity in particular. At the same time, China has accumulated rich experience in poverty alleviation and elimination, human resources development, protection of the rights and interests of women and children, health care and green and open development. All these areas are important aspects of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and also the priorities of all countries in the field of development. China is ready to cooperate with other UN member states and the UN Development System and share useful experience with other countries in the world.

Siddharth Chatterjee spoke highly of the significance of the GDI proposed by President Xi Jinping to the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He said, the UN Development System in China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China on advancing the GDI, actively offer recommendations and make proposals, carry out practical cooperation, create more "best practices" for development cooperation around the world, and make joint efforts for the cause of human development.
