Wang Yi Meets with President of the 74th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad Bande

On September 23, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President of the 74th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad Bande on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi expressed, there is a high degree of consensus among member states on the urgency of enhancing multilateralism. The next year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Supporting the UN in well hosting commemorative activities, China carries forward multilateralism, opposes unilateralism, resolutely maintains the core role of the UN in international affairs as well as safeguards the common interests of the international community, especially that of developing countries. The Chinese side supports the UN in prioritizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially in giving priority to poverty alleviation, education and climate change. China will continue to fully support the UN's work and further reinforce coordination and cooperation with the UN.

Tijjani Muhammad Bande congratulated the People's Republic of China on the 70th anniversary of its founding and highly praised the huge achievements in China's development. He said, under the current circumstances, it is of critical importance to adhere to multilateralism. No country can resolve all the problems, and no country can place itself above the UN. It is hoped that we will take the commemoration marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN next year as an opportunity to further showcase the international community's consensus and resolution on supporting multilateralism and strengthening international cooperation. He thanked China for making important contributions to promoting world peace and development, and eagerly anticipated China's further and strong support for the UN's work.
