Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji of Bhutan

On August 15, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji of Bhutan, who was in China to hold the 24th round of talks on China-Bhutan boundary issue.

Wang Yi said that China has always respected Bhutan’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. An early establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Bhutan not only conforms to the common interests of the two countries, but also is beneficial to safeguarding regional stability and development. The Chinese side looks forward to developing a long-term, stable and friendly relationship with Bhutan, and is willing to solve the boundary issue with Bhutan at an early date through friendly negotiation.

Lyonpo Damcho Dorji noted that the Bhutanese government attaches great importance to Bhutan-China relations. In recent years, the two countries have maintained a sound momentum in exchanges in all fields. Admiring the development achievements of China, Bhutan is willing to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and push forward the process of boundary negotiations on the basis of existing consensus.
