Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif of Pakistan

On December 26, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif of Pakistan, who was attending the 1st China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue.

Wang Yi welcomed Khawaja Muhammad Asif to attend the 1st China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue in China, stressed that China always puts Pakistan into a privileged direction of its neighboring diplomacy, and expressed the willingness to work with Pakistan to tamp "four major pillars" of political mutual trust, converged interests, common security and people-to-people bond in bilateral relations, and consolidate and deepen China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. The Long Term Plan for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) released not long ago has showed the contributions made by China and Pakistan to promoting regional connectivity and the bright vision of devoting to common development, which conform to the common interests of the two countries and countries in this region. China is willing to, together with Pakistan, carry out advantage complementarities, give full play to the radiation effects of the CPEC on countries in the region, and jointly push forward international cooperation of the "Belt and Road".

Wang Yi expressed that Pakistan and Afghanistan are good friends of China. The holding of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue proposed by China aims at building a platform for sound communication and dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan, helping the two sides establish mutual trust and improve relations, boosting trilateral practical cooperation, and jointly devoting themselves to safeguarding peace, stability and development of the three countries and the region at large. It is believed that under joint efforts of the three countries, the 1st China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue will certainly reach positive consensus, and lay a solid foundation for the three sides to deepen their cooperation.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif expressed that China is an all-weather strategic cooperative partner and the most trustworthy friend of Pakistan. The Pakistani side is willing to, together with China, intensify communication and coordination, well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries, fully boost the construction of the CPEC, and give play to its demonstration role as a connectivity project under the "Belt and Road". Pakistan appreciates China's proposition of holding the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue, which accords with President Xi Jinping's guidelines for promoting harmony and friendship among the three sides. Pakistan will, on the basis of a constructive attitude, fully show sincerity, in a bid to jointly facilitate the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue to achieve positive outcomes.
