In 2024, the community with a shared future that carries stragetic significance between the People's Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam had a good beginning with increasing practical cooperation in various fields.
In April, Vietnamese National Assembly President Vuong Dinh Hue paid an official visit to China, where General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping met. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, held separate talks and meetings. In June, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh came to China to attend the Dalian Summer Davos Forum. General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping met with him, Premie Minister Li Qiang and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning met with him respectively. In August, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, paid a state visit to China. General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping met with him, Prime Minister Li Qiang , Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Zhao Leji, and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Wang Huning, respectively met with him. Both sides issued a joint statement between the People's Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and promoting the construction of a China Vietnam community with a shared future. In October, Prime Minister Li Qiang paid a visit to Vietnam, met with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Vietnamese National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man. Both sides issued a joint statement between the People's Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.In November, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion Summit in Kunming, Yunnan and paid a visit to Chongqing. In December, Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs, co chaired the 16th meeting of the China Vietnam Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in China.
In 2024, the bilateral trade volume between China and Vietnam reached 260.65 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 13.5%. Among them, China's export volume was 161.89 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 17.7%, and its import volume was 98.76 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%. China is Vietnam's largest trading partner. Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fourth largest trading country in the world.
In recent years, there has been a good momentum of exchanges and cooperation between China and Vietnam in various fields. Both sides have established more than 30 cooperation mechanisms, including the Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee and the Two Party Theoretical Seminar.
The cooperation between the two countries in people to people and cultural fields has been steadily advancing. The Confucius Institute at Hanoi University and the Hanoi Chinese Cultural Center are operating smoothly. In 2010, 2013, and 2016, both sides held three China Vietnam Youth Festivals. Since 2000, the two countries have taken turns hosting youth friendly meetings between China and Vietnam, and have successfully held 23 sessions so far. In 2024, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam reached 3.73 million.
