On July 10, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi of Jordan who was in China for the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF).

Wang Yi expressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jordan more than 40 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing steadily. In recent years, President Xi Jinping met with King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein twice and reached a number of consensuses. The Chinese side supports the Jordanian side in maintaining national stability and achieving economic development under the leadership of King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein. China is willing to, together with the new government of Jordan, further implement the consensuses of the two heads of state, expand practical cooperation, and deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, in a bid to push forward bilateral relations for greater development. Appreciating Jordan for adhering to the one-China principle, China will also, as always, support Jordan in playing a unique and positive role in regional affairs. Wang Yi congratulated Jordan on holding the next CASCF Ministerial Meeting and hoped that the Ministerial Meeting could make new contributions to deepening China-Arab states strategic partnership.

Ayman Safadi noted that Jordan warmly congratulated China on successfully holding the 8th CASCF Ministerial Meeting, and highly appreciated the important speech delivered by President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony which charts the course for Arab states-China strategic cooperation. Jordan stands ready to intensify coordination with China and work hard to well hold the next Ministerial Meeting. Jordan regards China as a major country with great influence in the world and always attaches importance to developing its relations with China. Jordan will continue to adhere to the one-China principle and support China's efforts in safeguarding its core interests. Jordan attaches importance to the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping and is ready to deepen cooperation with China in the process of the joint construction. Jordan hopes that China will play an important and constructive role in Middle East affairs.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Syrian issue and believed that the political settlement of the Syrian issue should be promoted in line with the spirit of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 and under the principle of "Syrian-led and Syrian-owned".
