President Jiang Zemin Met with Former German Chancellor

President Jiang Zemin expressed the gladness to meet with Mr. Kohl again in Berlin on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany. Jiang praised Kohl for the fact that he has always assessed and handled China-Germany relations from a strategic height and in a long-term view, and laid a solid foundation for the smooth development of all-round cooperation between the two coutries. At the beginning of the new century, Sino-Germany cooperation is faced with unprecedented opportunities for development and the Chinese side will join hands with the German side to push forward the mutually beneficial cooperation.

Kohl said that multi-polarization is a major feature of the world today. Germany and the European Union welcome China's rapid development and hope China will play a bigger role in international affairs. Germany-China cooperation is complementary, and there exist broad prospects. To consolidate cooperation with China has become a consensus of various parties in Germany.

Jiang also exchanged views with Kohl on the international situation and the fight aganist terrorism.
