China and Montenegro

The People's Republic of China and Montenegro established diplomatic relations on July 6, 2006.

In February 2021, President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović attended the China-CEEC (Central and Eastern European Countries) Summit. In May 2021, President Xi Jinping had a phone call with President Milo Đukanović of Montenegro. In July 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi exchanged congratulatory messages with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Đorđe Radulović on the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Montenegro. In November 2022, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Yongqing held a video meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament Branka Bošnjak. In December 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li visited Montenegro.

In 2023, the bilateral trade volume between China and Montenegro was US$220 million, a year-on-year decrease of 16.1%. The two countries have established mechanisms of the Joint Economic Committee and the Science and Technology Cooperation Committee. They have signed a range of agreements in the fields of education, science, culture, tourism, etc. During the 1st Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the two countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Montenegro on Jointly Promoting the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (May 2017).

In March 2023, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Montenegro held the 4th meeting of the China-Montenegro Science and Technology Cooperation Committee via video link. In September 2024, Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister Momo Koprivica visited China to attend the 5th Plenary Meeting of the United Nations Global Network of Anti-Corruption Enforcement Cooperation.
