On November 13, 2014, President Xi Jinping and President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico jointly attended the opening ceremony of the culture exhibition “Mayas: the Language of Beauty” held at the National Museum of China.

Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech that both China and Mexico have a long history and splendid culture, and have jointly made indelible contributions to the progress of human civilization. During my visit to Mexico last year, I visited the ancient site Chichen Itza of Maya, which impressed me deeply. During President Peña's visit to China this time, the two sides co-hosted the Mayan culture exhibition, which is a grand event of cultural exchanges between the two countries. By organizing cultural exhibition and other activities, we make the cultural objects collected in the museum, the cultural heritage on display in the vast land and the characters written in the ancient books all come alive, so that the two peoples can feel the wonderful civilization of each other’s country across time and space and beyond borders, and the time-honored friendship between the two peoples will exhibit new vigor and vitality. The Chinese side is ready to work together with the Mexican side to promote mutual inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual exchanges of civilizations and to make new contributions to the progress of human civilization.

Peña expressed that the Mayan civilization is the cradle of American Indian culture, leaving precious heritage for mankind and was one of the most advanced civilizations in ancient times. The culture exhibition in China this time has built a new bridge to promote mutual understanding between the two peoples. Both Mexico and China are countries with a long history and bright prospect, and he hopes that the two countries will carry out more exchanges and cooperation, and welcomes more Chinese people to appreciate Mexican culture themselves in Mexico.
