On September 3, 2020, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Russian President Vladimir Putin to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.

In the congratulatory message, Xi Jinping pointed out, on the same day 75 years ago, the victories of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Soviet Union's war against Japan marked the final victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. In that war, which spread across Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania, more than 100 million troops and civilians in all countries involved were injured or killed, paying the most painful price in human history. China and Russia, respectively the main battlefield in Asia and Europe, endured great national sacrifices for and made indelible historic contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. The Chinese and Russian peoples fought side by side and forged an unbreakable great friendship with blood, laying a solid foundation for the high-level development of bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping noted, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia both shoulder important responsibilities for the cause of world peace and development. I am ready to work with you to take the 75th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War as an opportunity to lead China and Russia towards deeper comprehensive strategic coordination. Together with the international community, we should firmly protect our victory in World War II and international fairness and justice, actively uphold and practice multilateralism, promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, in a bid to allow future generations to enjoy a world featuring lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.

In his congratulatory message, Vladimir Putin said, World War II is the most painful tragedy in human history. The Soviet Union and China were the main battlefields in the fight against fascism and militarism and made huge national sacrifices in completely defeating the invaders. Our two countries and our two peoples have forged a profound friendship in that arduous war. Today, this spirit of mutual assistance continues to be carried forward, promoting the vigorous development of Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination. It is our common responsibility to maintain the truth of the history of World War II. We should resolutely oppose any acts of distorting history and beautifying Nazis, militarists and their accomplices. We must never forget or slander the achievements of the liberators, and the results of World War II shall never be denied. The Russian side is willing to continue to work actively with China to prevent the outbreak of wars and conflicts and maintain world stability and security.
