Wang Yi: Japan Once Again Faces the Question of History and Morality at the Important Juncture Marking the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II
Updated: December 25, 2024 21:36

On December 25, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed when jointly attending the second meeting of High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges between China and Japan with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya that next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war. The war of aggression launched by Japanese militarism back then brought untold suffering to the people of China and other victimized countries in Asia, and the Japanese people also suffered greatly as a result. At this important juncture marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Japan once again faces the questions of history and morality. History, if not forgotten, can serve as a guide for the future. Remembering this history is meant to draw lessons from it and cherish the hard-won peace. The Chinese side hopes and believes that Japan will once again demonstrate its determination for peaceful development, and work with China to push forward the sound and stable development of China-Japan relations in the spirit of "facing the past and opening up the future".
