Li Keqiang Delivers a Speech at the Foreign Ministry's Reception on the Earthquake Disaster Relief

On June 26, 2008, the Chinese foreign ministry held a reception in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse to express gratitude on the contributions made to the earthquake disaster relief efforts. Vice Premier Li Keqiang, also member of the Standing Committee of the CCCPC Political Bureau and Deputy Director of the State Council's Earthquake Rescue & Relief Command addressed the reception which more than 170 foreign diplomats and representatives of the Chinese offices of international organizations attended.

Li first of all, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, extended thanks to the governments and people of countries concerned, international organizations and foreign diplomatic bodies in China for their deep condolence, great support and generous assistance to the Chinese people after the massive earthquake rocking Wenchuan, Sichuan province.

He said that under the strong leadership of the Chinese government the Chinese people had made major achievements of disaster relief after extremely hard work. The international community offered a large amount of fund and materials to China and some countries sent to the disaster regions rescue and medical teams which have made remarkable contributions to China's relief efforts. Such kind deeds fully demonstrated the profound friendship and lofty humanitarian spirit of the people all over the world. The Chinese government and people would remember such sincere help in need for ever.

The disaster relief efforts have entered into a new stage. China has pooled all the resources available nationwide to tangibly push forward the resettlement of disaster-hit people and their reconstruction. The Chinese people are confident and capable of making a big success of disaster relief and hosting a unique and high-level Olympic Games. They are committed to solving the difficulties and problems on the road forward by development and reform and maintaining the stable and relatively fast growth of the national economy, said Li.

He also exchanged opinions with the foreign diplomats who expressed the confidence that the Chinese government and people would definitely overcome the difficulties and rebuild their home and extended wishes on the success of the Olympic Games.

State Councilor Dai Bingguo was present at the reception which was chaired by Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Also present at the reception were officials from the central government and the State Council departments.

So far more than 160 countries and 10 international organizations have provided China with fund, material or personnel assistance.
