On July 17, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui met with Miroslav Jenca, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and the Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA). Both sides exchanged views on issues of common concern including the work of UNRCCA and the situation in Central Asia.

Li said the establishment of the center is an important outcome of the reform of the UN Secretariat, as well as an effective attempt of Central Asian countries to conduct preventive diplomacy. China supports the UN to improve its preventing and mediating capacity and closely follows the work of UNRCCA. Li hoped that the international community will fully respect national conditions of Central Asian countries and earnestly help them maintain stability and promote development.
