Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui Meets with Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs and Inter-parliamentary Relations of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan M. Teshabaev

On July 4, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui met with Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs and Inter-parliamentary Relations of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan M. Teshabaev, who is visiting China at the invitation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC).

Li made positive comments on the status quo of the development of bilateral ties and appreciated Uzbekistan's support of China's position on the issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and combating the "three evil forces". Li also expressed gratitude for the assistance offered by Uzbekistan after the devastating earthquake that hit China's Sichuan province. He said China is ready to work with Uzbekistan to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, build up political trust, deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation and strengthen coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other multilateral frameworks to promote peace, stability and development of this region.

Teshabaev said Uzbekistan attaches great importance to the relationship with China and deems it one of the priorities of Uzbekistan's foreign policy. The Uzbek side will as always offer strong support to China on major issues of China's concern and hopes to enhance bilateral cooperation on politics, economy, trade, security and humanities and keep closer coordination in international and regional affairs. Teshabaev sincerely wished the Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo great successes.
