Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu Attends Launch Ceremony of “China-Somalia Friendship Scholarship” in Somalia National University

On 25 November, H.E. Wang Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, attended the launch ceremony of “China-Somalia Friendship Scholarship” held in Somali National University. H.E. Nura Mustaf Mukhtar, State Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education of Somalia, Professor Hassan Osman Gaal, Rector of Somali National University, as well as faculty and student representatives also attended the event.

Ambassador Wang said that as a sincere friend of Somalia, China has carried out effective cooperation in various fields with Somalia. Just as Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed during the keynote speech of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit, “on the path to modernization, no one, and no country, should be left behind”. China’s development will bring more opportunities to the whole world including Africa. Education defines a country’s future. By setting up the scholarship, we aim to provide support for outstanding Somali freshmen in need and encourage them to study harder to make contributions to the national development of Somalia and China-Somalia friendship in the future.

Government officials and faculty as well as student representatives expressed deep appreciation for China’s support to the development of Somalia’s education cause.
