On October 22, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Abul Kalam Abdul Momen at the latter's request.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh. The leaders of the two countries have maintained close contact and reached important consensus on consolidating China-Bangladesh strategic partnership and deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. It sends a clear signal that the two sides commit themselves to pursuing common development through concerted efforts. China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to implement the important consensus between the leaders of the two countries, continue to support each other firmly on issues involving core interests and major concerns, better align the promotion of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with the Golden Bangladesh dream, solidly advance cooperation on major projects, and take the fast lane of post-pandemic recovery side by side.

Wang Yi said, since the outbreak of COVID-19, the friendship between China and Bangladesh has been further deepened in the joint fight against the pandemic. China is willing to assist Bangladesh in defeating COVID-19 to the best of its ability once the vaccine is successfully developed and put into use.

Abul Kalam Abdul Momen said, the Bangladesh-China friendship has a long history. The two countries have kept deepening their bilateral relations in the past 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Bangladesh will continue to stand with its great Chinese friends, firmly pursue the One-China policy and support China's legitimate claims. Bangladesh is ready to strengthen cooperation with China and push major cooperation projects between the two countries onto the "fast lane" for fruitful results.

Wang Yi thanked Bangladesh for its support to China, adding that the United States' groundless accusations against China are typical of unilateral bullying. The attack on China is an attack on developing countries and an attempt to deprive emerging economies of their right to development. All developing countries should join hands to defend our legitimate interests and international justice.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Rakhine State issue and agreed that a meeting should be convened by the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh joint working group as soon as possible. Wang Yi said, both Myanmar and Bangladesh are close and friendly neighbors of China. China has been working actively on mediation and communication to find a proper solution to the issue in a sincere manner. We will continue to make efforts to break the current deadlock and promote the process of repatriating the Rohingya who have taken refuge in Bangladesh.
