On October 19, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Mahbub Uz Zaman. When introducing the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping at the United Nations, Liu Jinsong said that the Initiative focuses on speeding up the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, calls on the international community to tackle challenges together, revitalize the economy and pursue more robust, greener and more balanced global development. Both Bangladesh and China are developing countries with large populations. We have gained unique experience and adopted our own approaches in the course of development. China welcomes Bangladesh to join the Initiative, share its wisdom, and deepen cooperation to seek common development. China stands ready to provide assistance within its capacity to Bangladesh to combat COVID-19, support its economy in getting rid of the impact of the pandemic as soon as possible, and advance further progress in practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Bangladesh.

Zaman said that the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping reflects the philosophy of a community with a shared future for mankind and the common aspiration of the international community. Not long ago, I attended the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. After listening carefully to President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the Leaders' Summit, I believe his important speech demonstrates China's solemn commitment to building a shared future for all life on Earth and protecting biodiversity. China timely provided Bangladesh with vaccines to help us gradually control the pandemic. Bangladesh is deeply grateful for China's assistance and looks forward to continuing deepening cooperation on COVID-19 response and economic recovery.

The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on major projects between the two countries and the cooperation in international multilateral organizations and regional affairs.
