Chinese President Meets Cambodian King

On July 10, 2003, President Hu Jintao and his wife Liu Yongqing met with Cambodia's King Norodom Sihanouk and Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk at the Great Hall of the People. The two sides had a warm and friendly meeting.

Hu said that Sino-Cambodian friendship had withstood the test of changes in their domestic and international situations, and continuously consolidated and developed. It is now deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. The new Chinese central leadership values Sino-Cambodian relations, and will work with Cambodia to promote bilateral traditional friendship and cooperation.

Hu spoke highly of Sihanouk's outstanding contributions to the development of bilateral relations and was happy about Cambodia's stable political situation, national reconciliation and remarkable economic growth under Sihanouk's leadership. China will, as always, support the Cambodian people's efforts for national peace, stability and development.

Sihanouk expressed gladness at the friendly meeting with Hu. He reviewed the close exchanges and friendship with the generations of Chinese leaders with deep feelings. He said that for a long time period, the Chinese government and people have provided precious support and selfless support to Cambodia, and made important contributions to Cambodia?s peace and development. He expressed deep gratitude again on behalf of Cambodia. He also voiced his congratulations on China's great achievements in economic and social development.
