On October 6, 2019, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), exchanged congratulatory messages on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the DPRK.

In his congratulatory message, Xi Jinping said, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the DPRK, on behalf of the CPC, the Chinese government and the Chinese people, I extend warm congratulations to you, and through you to the WPK, the DPRK government and the DPRK people.

Xi Jinping noted, 70 years ago, China and the DPRK officially established diplomatic relations, which bore epoch-making significance in the history of the two Parties' and the two countries' relations. The DPRK is among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the PRC. Over the past 70 years, under the care and joint efforts of successive generations of leaders of the two Parties and the two countries, the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK has stood the test of time and changes in the international landscape, grown stronger with the passage of time, and taken roots deeply in the hearts of the two peoples. The two countries have reaped plentiful fruits in bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, which has not only greatly promoted the prosperity and progress of our respective socialist causes, but also played a significant and positive role in maintaining regional peace and stability.

Xi Jinping stressed, the traditional bilateral friendship between China and the DPRK is a priceless treasure shared by the two Parties, the two countries and the two peoples, and therefore to well maintain, cement and develop bilateral relations is an unshakable policy of the CPC and the Chinese government. I highly value the development of China-DPRK relations as well as cherish the mutual trust and friendship with Comrade Chairman. Since the beginning of last year, Comrade Chairman and I have met five times and reached a series of consensus, jointly ushering bilateral relations into a new period in history. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the DPRK side to take the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity and promote the long-term, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations, so as to deliver more benefits for both countries and both peoples.

In his message, Kim Jong Un expressed, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and China, on behalf of the WPK, the DPRK government and the DPRK people, I extend the warmest congratulations and the sincerest wishes to Comrade General Secretary, and via Comrade General Secretary to the CPC, the government of the PRC and all the Chinese people.

Kim Jong Un said, the establishment of DPRK-China diplomatic relations carries epoch-making significance. Over the past 70 years, the two Parties and the two peoples have joined hands in weal and woe and weathered all tempests in the course of defending and promoting the cause of socialism, and have written a history of great friendship. The DPRK-China relations have now entered an important and critical period of inheriting the past and forging ahead into the future. It is the unwavering position of myself, the WPK and the DPRK to resolutely carry on the fine tradition of friendship with China and realize an all-round revitalization of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. I am willing to work hand in hand with Comrade General Secretary and cement and develop the DPRK-China friendship in line with the two peoples' shared aspirations, which is admired by the world, and by dint of the strength of friendship and unity, to firmly uphold the socialist cause and safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and the world.
