On September 9, 2020, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President of China sent a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the 72nd anniversary of DPRK National Day.

In his congratulatory message, Xi Jinping pointed out, on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of DPRK National Day, I would like to, on behalf of the CPC, the Chinese government and people, extend warm congratulations and best wishes to Comrade Chairman, and through you, to the WPK, and the DPRK government and people.

Xi Jinping pointed out, for the past 72 years since the founding of the DPRK, various causes of socialist have enjoyed vigorous development under the leadership of the WPK. In recent years, Comrade Chairman has led the WPK and the DPRK people to follow a new strategic path, make concentrated efforts to develop the economy, and actively advance the exchanges and cooperation with other countries, making important achievements. As a friendly neighbor of the DPRK, we are sincerely glad about this.

Xi Jinping emphasized, the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK is the common treasure of the two parties, two countries and two peoples. Comrade Chairman and I have met many times and reached series of important consensus, guiding the relations between the two parties and the two countries into a new historical period. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, both sides have supported and helped each other, and the friendship between China and the DPRK has been further deepened.
