On October 10, 2020, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Party.

In his congratulatory message, Xi Jinping pointed out, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the WPK, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, I would like to extend warm congratulations and best wishes to Comrade Chairman, the Central Committee and Party members of the WPK, and people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Xi Jinping said that the WPK has a long and glorious revolutionary tradition. Over the past 75 years of its development, the Party has united and led the DPRK's people to forge ahead bravely, realized national independence and the liberation of the people, and gained remarkable achievements in building the grand cause of socialism. In recent years, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the WPK led by Chairman Kim Jong Un, the Party and the DPRK's people have unswervingly followed the pathway of socialism, made great efforts in strengthening Party building and economic development, tackled with all kinds of difficulties and challenges with utmost solidarity, actively participated in foreign exchange and cooperation, and gained fruitful key achievements. As comrades and friends, we heartily rejoice over the achievements. We believe that under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the WPK led by Chairman Kim Jong Un, the Party and the DPRK's people will make unremitting efforts to push forward the socialist cause, and usher in the successful opening of the Eighth National Congress of the WPK with outstanding achievements.

Xi Jinping stressed that the People's Republic of China and the DPRK are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and are both socialist countries under the leadership of communist parties. The deeply-rooted traditional friendship between the two countries was created and nurtured by the old generation of leaders of the two parties, has withstood the test of time and grown ever stronger and should be doubly cherished. In recent years, he met with Chairman Kim Jong Un for several times and reached many important consensus on further consolidating and developing the relations between the two parties and the two countries, opening a new historical chapter of the PRC-DPRK relations. We are now at a critical juncture of major changes that are rarely seen in a century intertwined with the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
