2000-11-15 14:16
On April 10, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) and the Republic of Korea(ROK) announced that the two sides had reached agreement on holding the North-South Summit, and that DPRK leader Kim JongII and ROK President Kim Dae-jung will hold a summit meeting between the North and South of the Korean Peninsula in mid-June in Pyongyang.

It is China's consistent position to maintain and promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The Chinese side has all along stood for and supported the improvement of relations and reconciliation between the North and South of the Korean peninsula through dialogue and consultation, leading to the eventual realization of independent and peaceful reunification. The Chinese side welcomes and supports the agreement reached by DPRK and ROK on the first ever summit meeting between senior leaders of the two sides since the division of the Korean Peninsula. It is our sincere wish that the meeting will yield positive results.
