In 2024, bilateral relations between the People's Republic of China and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste maintained a sound momentum of growth.
High-level exchanges between the two sides have shown positive momentum. In April 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste Bendito visited China. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi held talks with him in Guangxi. In July, President Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste paid a state visit to China. During the visit, the two sides issued the Joint Statement between the People's Republic of China and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on Strengthening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
China's assistance to Timor-Leste yielded productive results, and various China-aided projects were carried out smoothly. In June 2024, the two sides signed The Minutes of the Meeting on the feasibility study site visit of the China-Timor-Leste Friendship Hospital.
Cooperation in various fields between the two countries has continued to deepen. The two sides signed The Cooperation Plan between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on Jointly Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, and cooperation documents in areas such as agriculture, civil air transport, digital economy, green development, infrastructure, implementation of the GDI, radio and television, media and public culture.
In September 2024, the Macao Special Administrative Region and Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, signed a treaty of friendship.
