Wang Zhizhen, Special Representative of President Hu Jintao, Meets with East Timor's New President Ruak

On May 20, 2012, Wang Zhizhen, special representative of President Hu Jintao and vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with East Timor's new President Taur Matan Ruak in Dili.

Wang conveyed the warm congratulations and good wishes from President Hu Jintao to Ruak and congratulated him on his assumption of office as President of East Timor. Wang said that the 10 years since East Timor's restoration of independence is also a decade of healthy development of China's relations with East Timor. The bilateral political mutual trust has been increasing and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has made positive progress. The Chinese side attaches great importance to developing good-neighborly friendly relations with East Timor. China is willing to continue to provide assistance within its capacity for East Timor's nation-building, further expand bilateral pragmatic cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture and other fields, strengthen bilateral coordination in international and regional affairs and remain a good neighbor, good friend and good partner of East Timor forever.

Ruak thanked President Hu Jintao for sending Wang Zhizhen as special representative to attend his inauguration ceremony. Ruak said that East Timor is satisfied with the sound development of bilateral relations. East Timor attaches great importance to developing relations with China and thanks for the invaluable assistance provided by China for East Timor's nation-building. He pledged to continue to firmly pursue the one-China policy and always support China on issues concerning its core interests in his five-year term. East Timor is willing to further deepen the friendly cooperation with China in various fields to enhance the bilateral relations to a new level.

Wang attended the inauguration ceremony of East Timor's president and the celebration for the 10th anniversary of the restoration of independence of East Timor on the evening of May 19 and the morning of May 20 respectively.
