Zhang Dejiang Meets with Prime Minister Jose Alexandre Xanana Gusmao of Timor-Leste

On April 8, 2014, Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with Prime Minister Jose Alexandre Xanana Gusmao of Timor-Leste at the Great Hall of the People.

Zhang Dejiang said that since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Timor-Leste, the bilateral relations have been constantly consolidated and developed. The joint decision made by President Xi Jinping and His Excellency the Prime Minister to upgrade the bilateral relations to the comprehensive cooperative partnership of good-neighborliness, friendship, mutual trust and mutual benefit, will surely further deepen the bilateral practical cooperation and lead the development of bilateral relations. China's NPC is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges with the National Assembly of Timor-Leste, to actively promote and well implement the important strategic consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, to deepen exchanges and cooperation, so as to continuously inject new impetus into the sustainable and sound development of bilateral relations and let the fruits of cooperation better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Xanana said Timor-Leste highly appreciates the positive role China has played in international and regional peace, security and development and is grateful for China's support for the national construction of Timor-Leste. He hoped both sides could strengthen cooperation in various fields and promote the bilateral relations to achieve continuous and greater progress.
