Xi Jinping Meets with President Taur Matan Ruak of East Timor

On September 2, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with President Taur Matan Ruak of East Timor at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Xi Jinping welcomed Taur Matan Ruak to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in China. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and East Timor are comprehensive cooperative partners featuring good-neighborly friendship and mutual benefits and mutual trust. Over the past 13 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the two countries have witnessed continuous and sound development in their relations. I am willing to work with you to raise the bilateral relations to new levels. Both sides should enhance high-level exchanges, strengthen cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, agriculture, tourism and petrochemicals, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges including education and health care, and strengthen communication and collaboration on climate change, the post-2015 development agenda and other major international issues. The Chinese government is ready to encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in East Timor and supports the construction of major infrastructure projects in East Timor.

Taur Matan Ruak expressed that he was glad to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in China. East Timor appreciates the long-term support and assistance of the Chinese side for the national development of East Timor, and will continue to promote its cooperation with China in all fields.
