Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou Holds Talks with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares of Timor-Leste

On May 3, 2016, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou held talks in Dili with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares of Timor-Leste.

Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares welcomed Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou's visit to Timor-Leste, and expressed that China has once actively supported the people of Timor-Leste in the struggle for national independence and emancipation. China took the lead in establishing diplomatic relations with Timor-Leste on the same day when the country was founded, and has provided enormous assistance in the development of Timor-Leste afterwards, to which Timor-Leste is very grateful. Considering China as a trustworthy cooperative partner, Timor-Leste stands ready to work with China to further improve political mutual trust under the situation, improve cooperation mechanism, and deepen practical cooperation, so as to promote the comprehensive cooperative relations between the two countries to continuously move forward.

Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou expressed that China-Timor-Leste relations are a model for relations between big and small countries featuring equal treatment, mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win results. China firmly supports Timor-Leste to safeguard its sovereignty and national independence, choose its own path of development in accordance with national conditions, as well as its efforts in state construction and improving people's livelihood. Chins is willing to work with Timor-Leste to actively integrate development strategies, strengthen practical cooperation in various fields such as defense, economy, and people-to-people and culture exchanges, and enrich the connotation of the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries, so as to benefit the two peoples.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international topics of common interest.
