Spokesperson on Li Peng's visit to India

At the invitation of Chairman Krishan Kant of the Upper House of the Parliament and Chairman Gnati Mohana Chandra Balayogi of the House of the People of India, Chairman Li Peng of the National People's Congress paid an official goodwill visit to India from January 9 to 16, 2001. The visit was an exchange of another high-level visit between China and India following President Jiang Zemin's state visit to India in 1996 and Indian President Kocheril Raman Narayanan's visit to China in May 2000. During the visit, Chairman Li Peng met with Indian leaders and people of all walks of life, had an in-depth exchange of views with them on how to push forward the Sino-Indian friendly cooperation and reached a lot of consensus. The visit has achieved the goal of enhancing understanding, developing friendship and strengthening cooperation. It has promoted the exchange and cooperation between the two countries, China's NPC and India's Parliament and further pushed forward the continued sound and stable development of Sino-Indian friendly and good-neighborly cooperation in the new century.
