Wang Yi Meets with Former President U Thein Sein of Myanmar

On April 22, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with former President U Thein Sein of Myanmar.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Myanmar enjoy a long-standing Paukphaw friendship, which has a profound foundation. Under the joint promotion of the leaders of China and Myanmar, the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries has achieved substantial progress. China is willing to cooperate with Myanmar in pushing forward the construction of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, well grasp the implementation of major projects and inject fresh vitality into Myanmar's economic development, in a bid to bring more well-being to the peoples of the two countries.

Wang Yi stated that China is glad to see that Myanmar has made constant progress in its domestic peace and reconciliation process and stands ready to continuously play a constructive role in promoting peace talks according to Myanmar's willingness. China supports Myanmar and Bangladesh in seeking the proper settlement of the issue of the displaced people fleeing from the Rakhine State through bilateral friendly negotiations and hopes relevant repatriation work will be implemented at an early date.

U Thein Sein expressed that developing friendly relations with China is a common consensus of all circles in Myanmar. Myanmar is sincerely glad to see that the brotherly Chinese people have made great development achievements under President Xi Jinping's leadership, sincerely appreciates China's long-term assistance for Myanmar to advance its domestic peace process as well as propel its economic and social development, and expects the Myanmar-China comprehensive strategic cooperation to reach higher levels.
