The 29th ASEAN-China Senior Officials' Consultation Held in Shenzhen

On May 25, 2023, the 29th ASEAN-China Senior Officials' Consultation was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, which was co-hosted by Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Chan Aye, and was attended by senior officials or senior officials' representatives of other ASEAN countries and representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat. Timor-Leste was represented at the meeting as an ASEAN observer.

Nong Rong emphasized that this year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's proposal to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, and also the 20th anniversary of China's joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. China is now advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, and is ready to work with ASEAN countries to uphold the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win results, jointly build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home, and tap into new opportunities for development and cooperation in such fields as emerging industries, new energy, monetary finance, traditional and non-traditional security, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China stands ready to advance synergy between the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative and the building of an ASEAN community, and remains committed to building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.

ASEAN countries spoke highly of China's achievements in its economic and social development, expressed expectations to share new opportunities brought by Chinese modernization, and expressed their readiness to work with China to actively promote the upgrade of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, constantly deepen cooperation in such fields as digital economy, green development, connectivity and sustainable agriculture, and tap the potential for cooperation with ASEAN in buiding the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. They also expressed their readiness to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in the fields of traditional and non-traditional security, advance consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea at a faster pace, and jointly strive for greater development of China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.
