Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of Foreign Ministry Cui Aimin Attends Opening Ceremony of the Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu

On May 24, 2021, the Opening Ceremony of the Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu was held. Vice Governor of Sichuan Province Li Yunze, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of Foreign Ministry Cui Aimin, Mayor of Chengdu Wang Fengchao, and Nepalese Ambassador to China Mahendra Bahadur Pandey attended the ceremony and jointly unveiled the Consulate General's plaque.

In his remarks, Ambassador Pandey speaks highly of the friendship and cooperation between Nepal and China, thanks China's strong assistance for Nepal to open a new Consulate General in Chengdu, and hopes the establishment of the consulate office in Chengdu will help promote all-round exchanges and cooperation between Nepal and Sichuan as well as surrounding provinces, and contribute to enhancing the relations of the two countries.

Director-General Cui Aimin said on behalf of the Foreign Ministry, China and Nepal are friendly neighbors with long and close historical ties. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the friendship and cooperation have made all-round progress. In 2019, President Xi Jinping and President Bidhya Devi Bhandari achieved exchanged visits, and had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral cooperation in all fields, charting the course for the development of China-Nepal relations. The new Consulate General in Chengdu will help increase people-to-people exchanges, and boost cooperation in economic trade and tourism with Sichuan and surrounding provinces. It will also enrich the strategic essence of bilateral relations. The Foreign Ministry will provide convenience and assistance for the work of the Consulate General in Chengdu.

Vice Governor Li Yunze said, the establishment of the Consulate General demonstrates the two governments attach importance to promoting China-Nepal strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity. Sichuan Province will work with Nepal to take the opening of the Consulate General as an opportunity to deepen friendship of the two countries in all fields, and enable more people to benefit from cooperation.
