China and Nepal are friendly neighbors linked by rivers and mountains. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1955, China-Nepal relationship has withstood changes of the international situation and has been growing in a consistent, steady and healthy manner, which sets a model of peaceful coexistence between the countries of different size. H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, paid a state visit to Nepal in 2019. China and Nepal decided to elevate China-Nepal Partnership to Strategic Partnership of Cooperation Featuring Ever-lasting Friendship for Development and Prosperity.China and Nepal have been deepening mutually-beneficial cooperation in all fields in a comprehensive manner,building overarching framework of trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network under the Belt and Road Initiative so as to promote mutual development.
In 2022, China maintained close exchanges and cooperation with Nepal. In March,H.E.Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister visited Nepal. In April,H.E. Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress held a videoconference with Rt. Hon. Mr. Agni Sapkota,Speaker of House of Representatives of Nepal. In August, H.E. Narayan Khadka, Foreign Minister of Nepalvisited China. H.E. Mr. Wang Yang, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference held a videoconference with Rt.Hon.Mr. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chairman of National Assembly of Nepal. In September,H. E. Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress visited Nepal. In June 2023,Rt. Hon. Mr. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chairman of National Assembly of Nepal visited China and participated in the Fifth China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo.
China and Nepalsigned Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative in 2017. China is the second biggest trade partner of Nepal.
