On November 4, 2016, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to newly-appointed President Michel Aoun of Lebanon. On behalf of the Chinese government and people and in his own name, President Xi Jinping congratulated Michel Aoun on his election as President of Lebanon.

Xi Jinping pointed out in the message that the Chinese and Lebanese people enjoy profound friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relationship 45 years ago, China and Lebanon have achieved steady development in bilateral relations, constantly enhanced political mutual trust, continuously advanced cooperation in economy and trade, gradually intensified people-to-people and cultural exchanges and maintained sound communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. Attaching great importance to the development of China-Lebanon relations, I am willing to make joint efforts with President Michel Aoun to constantly develop China-Lebanon friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation and better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.
