2017-06-24 17:04

On June 23, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met the press jointly with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Gebran Bassil of Lebanon and expounded China's stance on the issue of the refugees in the Middle East at inquiry.

Wang Yi said that the current refugee issue in the Middle East became prominent and the Middle East countries including Lebanon paid great efforts in hosting refugees from Syria and other countries. The refugees are not immigrants. The displaced refugees around the world would eventually return to their own countries and rebuild their homeland. This is not only the desire of all refugees that conforms with the direction of efforts for international humanism, but also a part of the UN Security Council's resolution on political settlement of the Syrian issue.

Wang Yi expressed that for settling the refugee issue in the Middle East, the political settlement process of the Syrian issues should be accelerated first to create necessary conditions for the return of refugees. Turbulence and poverty are the root causes of the issue. In order to completely address the issue, both the symptoms and the root causes should be addressed and a necessary environment needs to be created to help the refugees get rid of trouble through development and improvement of people's livelihood.

Wang Yi noted that for a long time, the Chinese government has been holding humanitarian spirits and providing help within its capacity to refugee-hosting countries under the framework of the UN. China is willing to, together with the international community, fully drive to cool down the hotspot issues, help refugee-hosting countries improve the ability of dealing with crisis and make efforts to realize the refugee's wish of returning home.
