On August 20, 2018, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan held a briefing for Chinese and foreign media at the International Press Center of the Foreign Ministry.

Xie Xiaoyan briefed the media on the relevant situation of his visits to Saudi Arabia, Syria and Israel in late July, and stressed that the Chinese side always adheres to the political settlement of the Syrian issue and has played a positive and constructive role in this regard. The Chinese side has repeatedly proposed China’s solutions and contributed its wisdom to the political settlement, actively participated in relevant international meetings for promoting peace, invited the delegations of the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition to visit China for many times, and held the international symposium on the Syrian issue. Attaching high importance to the humanitarian situation in Syria, the Chinese side makes contributions to alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people. The Chinese side held a seminar under the theme of development and reconstruction for the Syrian side this May.

Xie Xiaoyan expressed that the Chinese side firmly supports the settlement of the Syrian issue through peaceful means, opposes all forms of terrorism, and stands ready to strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation with the international community including Syria, so as to safeguard security and stability of the region and the world. China has no military presence in Syria.

Xie Xiaoyan also answered questions from the journalists regarding the current situation in Syria, the reconstruction of Syria, the Chinese side’s stance on the intervention of countries outside the region in the Syrian issue.
