Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Meets with Chairman of the Libyan National Transitional Council Executive Board Mahmoud Jibril

On September 2, 2011, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met in Paris with Chairman of the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) Executive Board Mahmoud Jibril.

Zhai said that the Libyan situation has changed significantly and the NTC which has become the key political power of Libya shoulders the major responsibility for the post-war political arrangement and reconstruction of the country. China respects the choice of the Libyan people and highly recognizes the important status and role of the NTC. It is ready to maintain close contact with the NTC and push for the continuous development of China-Libya friendly relations. It is willing to help within its capacity Libya's reconstruction and hopes the NTC respects China's core concerns and fulfills its commitment to effectively protect the interest of the Chinese businesses in Libya.

Jibril expressed admiration on China's impartial position on the Libyan issue and active role of solving the Libyan crisis and thanked China for its humanitarian assistance. He noted that the NTC values the status and role of China and is willing to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and push forward the bilateral ties. Libya welcomes the active role to be played by China in its post-war reconstruction and will continue to implement the existing business project contracts with China. He promised to take necessary measures to protect the safety of the Chinese citizens and assets in Libya.
