On December 13, 2015,China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Gong Xiaosheng attended the ministerial meeting on the Libyan issue in Rome, Italy. Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng expounded China’s position on the Libyan issue in the meeting, expressing that the Chinese side supports all sides in Libyain politically resolving disputes through negotiations and pointing out that the Middle East hotspot issues, including Libya, Palestine and Syria should be comprehensively solved and high attention should be paid to the post-war reconstruction and humanitarian aid while promoting the political progress of Libya. He also stressed that the Chinese side supports the UN in playing a more positive role in resolving the Libyan as well as other Middle East hotspot issues. China is willing to further participate in the settlement of relevant issues.

During the meeting, Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng also met respectively with representatives of Libya’s western and eastern parliaments, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on the Libyan issue and others.
