On November 19, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met at the Foreign Ministry with Lutfi Al-Maghrabi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of Libya.

Chen Xiaodong expressed, China and Libya enjoy a traditional friendship. The Chinese side resolutely supports the Libyan side in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and appreciates the Libyan side's precious support in issues concerning the Chinese side's core interests and major concerns. China hopes that various parties involved in the Libyan issue will return to the track of dialogue and consultation as soon as possible, and restore peace and stability at an early date. The Chinese side attaches importance to developing relations with Libya, and is willing to actively participate in Libya's future economic reconstruction.

Lutfi Al-Maghrabi congratulated the People's Republic of China on the 70th anniversary of its founding, and thanked the Chinese side for speaking up for the Libyan side in the United Nations and other international arenas. He reiterated that the Libyan government will continue to resolutely follow the One China policy, and hopes to further intensify bilateral exchanges of all levels, strengthen cooperation in areas including infrastructure construction and push for greater development of Libya-China relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
