Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Aurelien Agbenonci of Benin

On July 29, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Aurelien Agbenonci of Benin, who was in China for the Coordinators' Meeting of the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Wang Yi said that Benin is a traditional friend and important cooperative partner of China in West Africa. China is willing to, together with Benin, constantly enhance political mutual trust and focus on reinforcing cooperation in four areas of infrastructure construction, production capacity, agriculture and international affairs. China will also strive to help Benin improve its self-development capability so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Extending gratitude to China's strong support to Benin's economic and social development, Aurelien Agbenonci expressed that the new government of Benin places high emphasis on its relationship with China, and is willing to continuously maintain mutual understanding and support on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns. Benin is ready to intensify international coordination with China and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in infrastructure construction, agriculture, telecommunications, health care, human resource development and other fields.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest. Benin reiterated its support to China's just stance on the South China Sea issue.
