A:China welcomes the signing of the Arusha Peace Agreement by the Burundi government and most of the political parties on August 28 in Tanzania. The signing of the agreement is an important step in a positive direction in the Burundi peace process. We appreciate the unremitting efforts by the Burundi government and the parties concerned to achieve national reconciliation, the contribution by Nelson Mandela, former South African president and an international coordinator, and the work by the relevant parties of the international community to push forward the peace process. We sincerely hope that Burundi's relevant parities will pay more attention to national peace and stability and the fundamental interest of its people. In the spirit of national reconciliation, they should completely eradicate the ethnic resentment and resolve the existing differences through talks and consultations so as to achieve the long-term security of the nation and economic developments. We also hope that the international community will give more support to the peace process and economic development of Burundi.
